Wei Zhang's "Oath Of The Sea" is not just a wedding activity space; it's an exhibition that subverts conventional imaginations. The design is inspired by the Chinese phrase "HaiShiShanMeng," signifying an eternal, unchanging love. This concept is brought to life by associating the site's natural mountain range, formed over hundreds of millions of years, with the design, resulting in a space that reflects the pledge of eternal love.
The unique properties of this design lie in its innovative use of mirror material. The mirrors, with their different hardness levels, project varying effects, creating a visual experience of the seabed. The mirror also has an excellent effect of folding or enlarging the space, and the double-layer upper and lower device structure provides a more shocking visual impact.
The design was realized in an irregular-shaped resort public lawn area, spanning about 1500 square meters. The work adopts a double-layer upper and lower corresponding structure in the open space, creating a completely immersive space installation. The visual expression of this installation is the seabed, simulating rising bubbles, light effects, shiny and dynamic corals, and the top mirror surface is the dynamic projection of waves on the bottom.
One of the most significant challenges in creating this design was the dynamic Abstract coral space design device. A coral blade concentric cutting blade, with natural wind or artificial wind, can rotate the blade. The reflection of the aluminum blade with the rotating blade and dynamic light effect superposition creates a very shocking stage effect. For this idea, Wei Zhang conducted many experiments, such as whether the blade spacing and material thickness affect the wind force's rotation, and how the spindle can rotate and link effectively.
The project was completed in 2019 in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, China. The construction time was only one day and one night, and the entire ceremony process in the space was completed on July 21, 2019. The design has been awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021, a testament to its creativity, technical excellence, and innovation.
Wei Zhang's "Oath Of The Sea" is a testament to the power of design to create immersive experiences and redefine traditional spaces. This innovative banquet space not only offers a unique wedding venue but also serves as a symbol of eternal love, inspired by ancient Chinese tradition. It is a shining example of how design can bring imagination to life, creating spaces that are not just functional but also deeply meaningful.
